I’m as ambitious as most people, I suppose. I’m always looking for new experiences, new things to do, more ways to win.

But some days it’s good to recognize the blessings you have.

Do you have reasonable health? That’s a great start.

Are you doing useful work? That helps to fill your soul, even if you’re feeling underappreciated.

Have you learned things in the last year? Those lessons will stay with you forever.

Do you have a bit of money saved up? Rejoice!

Are there some friends you can count on for help? Those relationships are gold.

Do you have a place to live? That helps you have some stability in your life.

Can you do things you enjoy? They’ll help you to keep perspective.

Are there people who love you? Their care and support can give you energy every day.

Let’s take a few minutes today to appreciate what we have already. Yes, life is stressful. Yes, there’s challenges which seem insurmountable at the moment.

But help yourself to build a core of energy and confidence to overcome them. Give thanks for what you have.

The problem is that we, as human beings, are curious. That curiosity makes us always want more or something different. That’s also why we tend not to appreciate what we have, or at least, not for long. It’s odd to say, but I don’t see the point of making an effort to appreciate what I have. It’s bound to falter. It’s like making an effort to love someone. You love him or you don’t. If you make an effort, then probably you don’t…

Most often, we appreciate someone or something because we are in need. We are in a bad situation and appreciate friends coming to our help. We are hungry and therefore appreciate being served food.
