| This cover letter example is that of an MBA student looking for a
position as a summer associate at a prestigious investment
banking firm. She starts the letter by reminding the
person in charge of hiring that she met him at one of his
presentations. Furthermore, she stated that of all the
presentations that she attended, his was the one that stood out
the most for her. There is no doubt that she hit the nail
on the head in terms of showing her interest in joining this
firm. She then went on in the second paragraph of her
cover letter to discuss her work and academic experience as they
relate to the field of finance. She concluded the cover
letter on a
proactive note and mentioned the name of the person in charge of
hiring at the end. Mentioning his name was a good way to
create a rapport on paper. Be careful however of doing
that. In this case it was fine because the applicant met
him in person and they had a good exchange.
