While in Transition
Editor's Note
Applying for a job is one of the things that people dread the most because it makes them feel powerless. They learn of a job opening, apply for the job, hope for a job interview, are called in for an interview, attend the interview, go home, wait for good news, etc. There is indeed a lot of hoping involved as you look for a job. The longer the process drags on, the more people feel discouraged.

The job search process is a roller coaster, that’s just how it is. However, using this analogy, you can choose to enjoy the ride or you can choose to hate it. The choice is yours, but we will try to convince you to be positive about it. Why? Because you have nothing to gain by being negative. Being negative will get you nowhere and will only alienate people around you.

Make a conscious decision to be upbeat about your job search. This is the first step to feeling empowered. You are out of work? No. You are working for yourself. This is your life and you are working for a better future. Wake up early, eat a healthy breakfast, drink a good cup of coffee and create your own path.

This is your chance to start something new. You can either start a new job or become a freelancer. Why look at it as a dead end as opposed to a new beginning? By taking your destiny into your own hands, you will be more proactive about things.

Here are some tips to keep your spirits up while in transition:

  • Exercise. Keep your body in shape. No more excuses. You have time now.
  • Get out of the house. Get some fresh air.
  • Volunteer or enrol in activities.
  • Learn a new skill or update your skills.

Believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody will.
