Professional Resume Writing for Executives
Megan Koehler
There are many factors to consider when deciding whether or not to hire a professional resume writer but should the level of the position you are applying for have any influence on your decision? Do hiring managers vary their expectations for a resume based on whether or not the position is entry level, middle management, or executive? Do they expect a higher quality resume from someone applying for an executive role? It’s hard to say as no two hiring managers have the same set of standards when it comes to resumes; however, I think they would all agree that they are hoping to attract a certain type of candidate that is able to meet the industry requirements of an executive level position.

Many executive level job seekers hire a professional resume writer to create an executive resume for them. A professional resume writer has the experience to know how to craft a resume that meets the specific needs of numerous industries and career levels. They know what hiring managers are looking for and how to best bring that information to the forefront of your resume.

You don’t graduate from college one day and apply for an executive position the next; executives have years of experience and it is this essential experience that often proves to be so troublesome when they are trying to capture it in a resume. A professional resume writer has the expertise to consolidate years of experience and capture the candidate’s value in a concise marketing document that promotes the job seeker as the candidate of choice.

I have worked with many executive level job seekers and while they may possess the advanced degree and years of experience that would qualify them for the position they often have a hard time putting their experience onto paper. Another reason I have heard from executive level clients as to why they hire a professional resume writer is that they are simply too busy to write it themselves and find it much easier to simply delegate the task to someone else.

Anyone can submit a resume for a senior-level position but believe it or not there is a difference between a resume and an executive resume. If you were to view two resumes side by side – one for a mid-level position and one for an executive position at first glance the difference may not be obvious but a closer inspection would reveal notable distinctions between the two. In order to exhibit your executive qualifications it is essential that your resume has an executive feel to it; it must portray you as a high-level candidate through the format, content, wording, and font.

This is not to say that job seekers looking for something other than an executive position could not benefit from the expertise of a professional resume writer. Resume writers have the knowledge and experience to work with all professions and career levels. However, executive job seekers may want to consider using the services of a professional resume writer in order to ensure that their resume meets the executive level caliber of the position they are applying for.
