Resume Distribution
Editor's Note
What is a resume distribution service? It’s a service whereby a website or company offers to distribute your resume automatically. In essence, you will be asked to enter your information in a form. Once your information is entered, it will be distributed to various job boards online.

What are the advantages of using such a service? Some HR departments have subscriptions with job boards that allow them to search for resumes posted on the job board. To have your resume posted on various job boards will thus increase your visibility. Of course, you can do it manually, but the advantage of using a resume distribution service is that it will save you time. With the time that you save, you will be able to do more productive things like networking, etc.

Does using a resume distribution service conflict with the fact that your resume should be tailored to positions you are applying to? No, there’s no conflict. Here’s why: When you have your resume distributed, your objective is different. Your objective is to have your resume out there. You are not applying for a specific job. Instead, you put your resume out there in case someone sees a match between your qualifications and what they are looking for. When you see a job posting for an opening that interests you, you take a proactive approach by applying to that specific position. Hence, you will take your resume and make sure that what's on it will fit within the parameters of the job posting.

Tips when choosing a resume distribution service? Make sure the resume distribution service is reputable and see what’s included in the service.

What should you do before submitting your resume to a resume distribution service? Make sure your resume is good to go. Keep in mind that once you submit your resume, it will become part of the public domain. Therefore, you want your resume to be as good as it can be, no typos, no inconsistencies, etc. You also want to be a little more detailed in your resume since you don’t know who will be looking at it (as opposed to when you are applying to a specific job, where you will want to be more specific and address the specific requirements of the job).
